Flood Outlook Notice

What Residents Need to Know

Issued: Thursday, April 2, 2026 (12:00 pm)
In effect until: Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 4:00 pm

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has issued a Flood Outlook for the North Bay District.

What’s happening?

Rain is expected to begin later today and continue into Saturday. Temperatures are also warming. This combination of rain, melting snow, and frozen ground may cause water levels to rise, especially in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas.

What does this mean?

  • Widespread flooding is not expected, but localized nuisance flooding (such as pooling water, water on roads or in yards) may occur.
  • Rivers, creeks, and streams are flowing faster and may rise quickly.
  • Ice on lakes and rivers is breaking up and is unsafe.

Safety reminders

  • Stay well back from rivers, streams, and lakes.
  • Keep children and pets away from water.
  • Do not walk or drive through flooded areas.
  • Use extreme caution around all bodies of water, as conditions can change quickly.

Why flooding is possible

  • The ground is still frozen and cannot absorb much water.
  • There is still snow on the ground that contains a lot of moisture.
  • Rain and warmer temperatures will speed up snowmelt and increase runoff into waterways.

What residents should do

  • Keep an eye on local conditions and weather forecasts.
  • Watch for Environment Canada weather advisories.
  • Be prepared for changing conditions over the next several days.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is closely monitoring weather and water levels and will provide updates if conditions change.
