Residents are invited to place gently used, reusable items at the curb for others to take free of charge. The program helps divert waste from landfill and promotes community reuse. All items must be in usable condition and removed from the curb by 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18. Examples of acceptable items include furniture, books, toys, sporting equipment, garden tools, household goods, clothing, and plants. Items such as mattresses, bedding, toilets, appliances with cooling systems, hazardous materials, and other unsafe items are not permitted.
This year, residents can also participate in the new FreeCycle Map, allowing participants to submit the items they plan to give away so community members can easily locate available items throughout Callander. The interactive map will be updated regularly leading up to the event.
Curbside Collection: Residents may place eligible additional household waste at the curb on their regular garbage collection day, either Tuesday, October 20 or Friday, October 23. Accepted items include extra household garbage and small debris contained in bags or bins. Construction materials, furniture, large household items, electronics, tires, yard waste, glass, mirrors, and other bulky materials will not be collected at the curb.
Drop-Off Day: A special drop-off event will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Operations Yard, 100 Nipissing Street. Residents may bring bulky waste items including mixed metals, non-commercial construction debris, large carpets, mattresses, tires, leaves, yard waste, and other accepted materials. Batteries and electronics may also be disposed of through the permanent collection bins available on site.
Hazardous waste, shingles, concrete, gravel, stones, and appliances containing refrigerants are not accepted through the program and must be taken to designated facilities in North Bay. Proof of residency is required, and the event is open to Callander residents only. Commercial waste will not be accepted.
Overall, FreeCycle Weekend and Fall Clean-Up Days support waste diversion, environmental stewardship, and community sharing while helping residents responsibly manage unwanted items before winter.
