Watershed Conditions Statement - Water Safety

North Bay District - Central & Southern Areas

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry advises that water safety conditions are in effect due to expected rainfall and warming temperatures. Flooding is not expected, but high flows, melting snow, and deteriorating ice conditions may create hazardous situations around local lakes, rivers, creeks, and streams.

Key Points:

  • 20–50 mm of rain is forecast today, with a risk of thunderstorms.
  • Temperatures will drop below freezing this evening, increasing runoff.
  • Snowpack remains deep (20–40 cm) with high moisture content, reducing absorption and increasing pooling in low‑lying areas.
  • Ice conditions continue to weaken—use caution near shorelines and waterways.

Residents, especially in low‑lying or flood‑prone areas, should remain alert and keep children and pets away from waterbodies. The Ministry will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
