STATEMENT: The Passing of Cécile Dionne

Posted August 6th @ 9:00am

Statement on the Passing of Cécile Dionne

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Cécile Dionne, one of the five famous Dionne Quintuplets. Her life, like those of her sisters, was shaped by unusual circumstances and enduring challenges.

Born in Corbeil, Ontario, Cécile and her sisters became a global phenomenon as the first quintuplets known to survive to adulthood. While their birth brought international attention, it also lead to exploitation, loss of privacy and separation from their family.

In later years, Cécile helped to reclaim her story by speaking out about the realities of childhood fame, and advocated for children to be protected from what her and her sisters endured.

We honour Cécile Dionne’s memory with compassion and gratitude, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and all who knew her. Her legacy will continue to be remembered and respected as part of our shared history.
