Flood Warning & Watershed Conditions Update
The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNRF) and the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) have issued a Flood Warning for portions of the region, along with a Watershed Conditions Statement – Flood Outlook for the broader watershed.
Areas Affected
Current Conditions
- Recent rainfall (35–64 mm) and ongoing spring runoff have caused high water levels and flows across the region.
- Lake Nipissing water levels are above normal “non-damage” levels, and some areas are already experiencing flooding.
- Ground conditions are saturated, limiting the ability to absorb additional rainfall.
- Many low-lying areas, wetlands, and shoreline properties are inundated or at risk.
While widespread flooding is not expected, localized flooding and ponding remain likely, especially in flood-prone areas.
Weather Outlook
- Daytime temperatures are expected between 10–18°C, with overnight lows near freezing.
- Additional rainfall of 1–10 mm, with possible thunderstorms bringing higher amounts, may occur in the coming days.
- Water levels will remain sensitive and may rise quickly with further precipitation.
Safety Information
Residents are urged to take precautions:
- Stay away from fast-moving water, shorelines, and unstable banks
- Keep children and pets away from rivers, lakes, and flooded areas
- Exercise caution when boating or using watercraft; floating debris and strong currents pose hazards
- Avoid flooded areas and do not drive through standing water
- Monitor properties in low-lying or flood-prone areas closely
- Be prepared for possible impacts to docks, boathouses, and shoreline infrastructure
What Residents Should Do
Important Notes
- A Flood Warning means flooding is already occurring or imminent and action should be taken.
- A Flood Outlook indicates potential for flooding based on current and forecasted conditions.
Updates will be provided as conditions change. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant until this notice is lifted.
