June 30, 2021 Message from the Mayor - (click for pdf)

Today, we entered Stage 2 of the Reopening Plan, which means the Library and our Gift Shop at the Museum are now open, with limited capacity. We continue to move forward with mass vaccinations in our District. As of today, we are 73.3% vaccinated with at least one dose of vaccine, and 32% fully vaccinated. With another 3,000 vaccines scheduled today, we imagine these numbers will continue to rise over the course of the next few days. It is so wonderful to see families and friends reuniting. We ask that you please continue to stay tuned on provincial announcements and restrictions here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/zones-and-restrictions

As you may recall, Council made the difficult decision to cancel Canada Day celebrations due to our inability to predict the provincial restrictions on gathering, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. We are sad to not be able to host these events for another year however do look forward to planning for 2022. The volunteer fire fighters have informed Council that they intend to drive around Callander to wave and say hello to the children, similar to what they did last year. Be sure to keep an eye out for them!

In other news, at the June 22, 2021, Council meeting, a delegation was made by the Rorab Shrine Club to inform us that they have received permission to host a Fall Ceremonial in Callander the weekend of October 21-24, 2021. Council and I are very excited to be hosting this major event. The Shrine Club’s requests have been forwarded to staff, which will be presented as part of a report in July. They intend on hosting a Shriner’s parade on the Saturday and hope that all our residents will enjoy. We look forward to hosting them!

Council also acknowledged our staff’s hard work and dedication throughout this Pandemic. We are proud of our staff’s initiative to make our workplaces safe, and to continue to work in a fashion that led to very little disruptions to the municipal operations. As a thank you for their hard work, the Municipal Office will be closed at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays, for the duration of summer. Please keep this in mind when planning to visit or call the Municipal Office.

As a reminder, we continue to request that patrons, instead of coming into the office, try to use alternative methods for municipal services as much as possible, to reduce the community exposure and non-essential visits. Some examples are provided by visiting the following link: https://www.mycallander.ca/en/news-alerts/show/municipal-services-update-following-stay-at-home-order-

As always, and I cannot stress this enough, continue to support our local businesses where you can and please continue to follow all safety protocols, as recommended. Stay safe.

Mayor Robb Noon
