Message from the Mayor – January 15, 2021
2021 continues to be affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic as a recent State of Emergency is called in Ontario. The “Stay-at-Home” Order has affected us all and I, on behalf of Council, wanted to provide an update on the impacts this has had on the Municipality of Callander.
On January 14th, 2021, the Health Unit closed all outdoor public ice rinks, tobogganing hills and skating trails that are located on public property, across the District. Although we are respectful of their decision and have issued notice of the closure on our website and social media accounts, we share the public’s frustration with this decision. For now, we ask that the public do their part, by staying home as per the “Stay-at-Home” Order, so that we can speed up the process of reopening. Please note that the Municipal Office remains open with restrictions to minimize public interaction. The Library is offering curbside pick-up service and our Museum is currently closed.
Council requests that residents do what they can to support our local businesses here in Callander during this difficult time. Many businesses are offering curbside pick-ups and we encourage the purchasing of gift cards for future services. We also ask that you keep an eye on your neighbours and offer a helping hand, when possible and by keeping a distance. This can be done by picking up grocery items, shoveling a driveway or bringing out garbage. These small acts of kindness will go a long way.
We are thinking of our residents and local businesses as we go through this second wave together. Please, enjoy your time with family, and stay safe!
