Message from the Mayor – February 22, 2021 (Click to view PDF link)
As everyone has been made aware, the lockdown in our area has been extended for an additional two weeks. As Mayor, I am seriously concerned about the impact on our small business owners here in Callander. Although I respect the decision made by the Medical Officer of Health, it appears as though we are being more restrictive than the provincial response framework, which is causing undue hardship to our business community. We are hopeful to get an explanation from our Health Unit to better understand their logic in making this decision. Updated information will be posted on our website at www.mycallander.ca under “COVID-19” as well as “News & Alerts”.
The good news is that the use of public ice rinks and snowmobile trails are no longer restricted. After hearing the news on Friday, our Public Works staff arranged for flooding and are happy to announce that the rink will be open for use, starting today. We thank them greatly, especially due to the short notice. Please note the new signage that spells out the regulations for the rink. Staffing will be provided where we anticipate heavy use to enforce the regulations. As cautioned by the Medical Officer of Health, failure to abide by the regulations will result in the reconsideration of the decision to open the rinks. Please respect these regulations to ensure ongoing use of the rink. We also want to caution our Cranberry Trail walkers as the gate at the trail will be open today. permitting snowmobilers access to the trail. Be safe out there.
The Recreation Committee has posted another weekly activity challenge for families to take part in. We are enjoying seeing the photos of our Callander families taking part in this initiative. More information can be found on the Municipality’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MunicipalityOfCallander/
As always, and I cannot stress this enough, continue to support our local businesses where you can and please continue to follow all safety protocols, as recommended. Stay safe.
Mayor Robb Noon
