On September 3, 2019, the Municipality of Callander awarded the Tender for the reconstruction of King Street from Swale Street to Lansdowne Street during the 2019/2020 construction season.
The construction of this approximately $1.5 million project at this time has been made possible thanks to Provincial Government funding and Federal Gas Tax funding. The Municipality received $578,789 from the Province: $507,200 for the Municipal Modernization Payment announced in March 2019 and $71,589 for the Ontario Community Infrastructure (formula based) Fund. Including the additional one-time funding provided this year, Federal Gas tax in the amount of $480,521.92 is being used for this project. The remaining cost of the project will come from municipal funds, including development charges.
The first stage of the project will include the replacement of driveway and cross culverts, repairs to existing manholes to reduce water infiltrations into our wastewater system, grading, and placement of the granular road base, all of which is planned to be done this summer/fall. The placement of asphalt and granular shoulders is planned to commence in the spring of 2020, with the required completion date for the project being no later than July 17, 2020.
The Municipality of Callander is pleased to be able to move forward on this important reconstruction project in accordance with our Asset Management Plan. The Municipality thanks the Provincial and Federal Governments for their financial assistance to help make this possible.
