Fire Hydrant Flushing

Municipality of Callander Drinking Water System

Friday, August 28, 2019

Please be advised that the Municipality of Callander Operations Department in conjunction with the Ontario Clean Water Agency will be conducting routine “flushing” of the entire Municipal Drinking Water Distribution System starting on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 and continuing for a period of up to two weeks.

The operation will be conducted during the hours of 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM

As a result of this process you may encounter some discoloration, rust, or sedimentation and/or loss of pressure. Although the water has been properly disinfected you may not wish to ingest it. It is advised to refrain from using both hot and cold water to avoid pulling the discoloration, rust, or sediment into your house, laundry, fixtures/appliances. You may wish to keep some drinking water on-hand to utilize during the flushing operation.

If you notice discoloration, wait until the operation is completed and then run your cold water starting from the first tap in your plumbing system, with the aerator removed, until the discoloration clears which should take about 15 to 20 minutes. If the discoloration continues, wait a little longer to allow settling of the rust/sediment, and then run your taps again.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and cooperation. For any inquiries or concerns, please call the Callander Operations Department at 705-752-1410 x300.
